Hana Yori Dango information

  • Jun. 24th, 2006 at 7:15 PM
Hope
I've had a bunch of people commenting or emailing about the YouTube links I've been giving out for Hana Yori Dango. There's been a lot of hooplah from fansub groups about people posting their work on YouTube without crediting them (among other reasons), so a lot of series have been pulled from the YouTube site or made private, such as in the playlist that I've been linking to.

Therefore, there are three options for those who really want to experience the absolute awesomeness that is HYD, one of my favorite obsessions:

1) Download the episodes. It's super easy, but it may take awhile, depending on how many people are seeding at the time. It only took me a few hours, but I downloaded it when it first hit the net and was INSANELY popular. In any case, all you need to do is head over to SARS-Fansubs and click on their torrent page (located here). Scroll down to "Completed Projects" and you will find the Bittorent links for all the HYD episodes.

In order to download, you need to have a bittorrent client. I personally use Bit Comet, because I generally find it to be stupid-proof, but there are other options, like BitTornado or Azureus. If you need some info on what a bittorrent client is and how to use it, check out here or here.

2) There is a [info]jdramas community, where fans of j-dramas upload them onto direct-download sites like MegaUpload or Sendspace. You have to become a member in order to access the entries, and I believe that download links to HYD are in their memories. But not all of the download links are current, and most of the files are split, so you'd need to join the separate parts with a program called HJ Split. Benefit: they also offer TONS of other dramas, including Korean and Chinese series. But, it's a give-and-take community, so if you download, be sure to be prepared to offer a re-upload or to upload something you may have in order to contribute to the community.

3) Just search around on YouTube if the videos on the playlist are locked. HYD is super-popular and there are tons of people who have uploaded it, if you spend a few minutes looking, you'll probably be able to find it! If not on YouTube, there's also DailyMotion but it's newer and not as popular, so you may not have as much luck!

ETA: Via [info]slantedsunlight, there is a fourth option! VNL-online.com is a streaming video site like YouTube or Daily Motion but it specializes in j-Dramas. You have to register and become a member, but that's incredibly simple. Check out vnl.com and run a search for Hana Yori Dango. Bonus: it also has all the anime episodes, so if the 9 episodes of the live-action aren't enough, you can overdose on that! Mad thanks to [info]slantedsunlight for the link!

Hope this has been helpful to anyone who has decided to check out HYD and has been left stranded or frustrated because of the locked videos on YouTube! Make sure you come back and squee with me over how much you loved it, because you totally are going to!

Now I know nothing about HYD or why it's popular or what.. I don't even know what it's about but woohooo! Downloading is awesome and one day if you would like to post about what it is, in fact, about, I would love to know. I see you post about it a bunch and I'm soooo in the dark.

You have to watch Tokyo Tower too. I am so happy Hope told us about HYD it's like the best show, and what's sad is that it was shown over a year ago.

I've never seen Tokyo Tower! There are so many good j-dramas out there, and so little time... I've already seen about a dozen, plus a handful of Chinese and Korean series (which are much longer, with longer episodes), it's a wonder I was able to pass any of my courses this semester!

Hana Yori Dango is an awesome Japanese series. It originated as a manga, then was made into a popular anime, a SUPER (like, think NSYNC at their highest level) popular Taiwanese drama where the four main male leads became a ridiculously popular boy band, and most recently, a Japanese live action series that is so great. I talk about it here. See, I have this theory, that HYD is like D/G fic brought to life, and like, set in another culture and stuff. But, regardless, D/G fic BROUGHT TO LIFE. It's got all the same ingredients - the snark, the unexplainable jealousy, bullying, angst, family issues, humor. And completely inspired by D/G fic brought to life, I decided to try to *write* that fic, which spawned my newest story, CIC.

It's so great. Uber cheesy at times, but so so happy-inducing.

Hmmm I believe I will have to do some investigating. Anything that D/G related has to be given it's proper attention! Thanks for the info

I know! It's so great!

I hope you don't mind, but I'm going to delete your posts to this entry, just because I just posted a bunch of links on my bio pages at all the archives I post at, directing people who want to download the series here, and there's some spoilers in your comments... but I'll respond to you on the other post you were commenting on, because... definitely need to share in the squee! It's like reliving the series all over again, even though I've watched it far too many times, it's completely unhealthy.

Lol. I thought of that, after I posted. I was like, oh, crap, spoilers.

HYD & other JDramas.
Is this really the end of HYD? I can't believe that was the series .. I can't believe it was really over. I think I might cry. Lol.

And, since you've sucked me into the addicting world of JDramas, do you have any other recommendations? Series that are preferably already finished that I can go download & watch? Something of good sense though, along the lines of HYD.

I actually downloaded the rest of the HYD shows through SilentRegrets & Megaupload. It was fairly easy, except there's a limit to how many you can upload at a time.

Re: HYD & other JDramas.
I had the same reaction when it was all over! But!!! There is a sequel and a movie that will some day come out, I don't know when, so it's not all over yet.

Other JDramas? Nobuta Wo Produce is very good (it's a high school drama, and one of the main characters is quite possibly the most AWESOME character to ever exist!), as is 1 Litre of Tears (don't get fooled by the name - it IS very sad, but it's just so good).

I also really love It Started With a Kiss and MARS, which are Taiwanese dramas, and Goong (which is Korean, and the one I'm currently watching). ISWAK and Goong have a lot of silly moments and humor, and ISWAK is SOOOO incredibly cheesy, but I just love it so much and can't really explain why. Goong is all about the love/hate relationship, but when there's fluff, you'll die of cute-overload, it's so great.

it also might be on http://vnl-online.com. That's where I'm watching ISWAK. :)

Thanks for the link! I had never even heard of that site before! It's got everything on it, including the 51 episode HYD anime!

And, YAY for watching ISWAK. I adore that drama, and I don't even know why, but I love it SO much. I hope you like it! (the girl gets annoying sometimes, but the fluff! So cute!)

Goong is CUTE! There's snark and bickering and angsty-repression-of-feelings amidst the backdrop of some strange political-type conspiracy. Needless to say, it's pure CRACK for someone like me. Plus, it has SUPER CUTE ACTORS WITH BOYISH SMILES who reads Harry Potter. So yes, cute indeed. I hope you like it - it has a lot more episodes than HYD.

I'm loving Goong so far. The whole thing with Shinn being in love with that ballet girl, bugs me a little bit. But I'll get over it . . lol. I'm in the middle of the third episode right now, (Managed to find up to episode three w/ english subtitles, but I'm going to have to actually stop being lazy and download bittorrent after this, lol), and I love how when he goes to visit her at the palace and gives her the chocolates and everything, he tells her that Yui was the one who did it all. That kind of made up for the whole him being in love with another girl thing. Kind of.

Oh, I guess I should warn you... it's a 24 episode Korean drama, which means there is a mandatory love-quadrangle, and there will be many dramatic ups and downs meant to torture you until the very end, and even when they seem like they're going to be happy, something will happen to keep them apart until the very end. So, there must be patience and understanding when the "others" interfere and painfully sad moments happen, or moments when the two main characters (who, obviously, should be madly in love with each other but those damn other people keep interfering) keep hurting each other... it's DRAMA to the max, and any moment of couple cuteness, as a general rule, will be immediately followed by anger/jealousy/misunderstanding/massive fight.

Sounds kind of like ISWAK, except a thousand times worse.

Now there's already this thing with Ballet-girl. But I have this bad feeling that something's going to happen between her (As in the main girl) and the son of the dead king. Just the way he looked at her at first, and how he kept her pants (Dude, how wrong did that sound, lol) and how he's giving all that advice on the chocoalte and everything. Ugh. I can foresee so much angst in this series.

But I love angst. Lol.

Question about Goong: You've mentioned it before, but I was wondering where you downloaded Goong from and what player you used. I found a complete batch w/ english subtitles on D-addicts, and then I guess you can play those using Bittorrent, right?
[info]hope_fuleigh wrote:

You download them with Bittorrent, and they can be played on Windows Media Player, like most other media files. However, in order to see the subtitles, you need to have a program called Vobsub. Just download it and install it, and it'll automatically display the subtitles (you need to download the subtitle files, and save them as the same name as the video file in the corresponding directory. Ie., the video file for episode 1 should have the same name as the sub title (.srt) file for that same episode and be saved in the same folder).

Vobsub works with Windows Media Player, but it works best with Media Player Classic, which you can find here. It's what I use, because it plays .rmvb files as well as .avi files.

haha I just read your comment on the FIA forums, and figured I'd add the info here, too.

Just in case anyone loves this story, and hasn't seen Hana Yori Dango...

The live action jdorama can be found here:
http://video.google.com/videosearch?q=hana+yori+dango

...AND there's a Season 2, which started on January 5th. I'm still waiting for the fansubbed version to come out, but you can find the raw version (w/o subtitles) on D-addicts.com:
http://d-addicts.com/forum/viewtopic_43483.htm

To use d-addicts, see:
http://www.d-addicts.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=15864

And Emeral_Eyes, thanks so much for introducing us to this!! I think that the Japanese actor does quite a good job of portraying the Draco-esque character, too. Smiley And in the Taiwanese version, "Meteor Garden," the F4 actually became a popular Asian boy band. hehehe

And thanks so much for the tip on jdramas!! I think I'll go member-ify now. :)

Confessions of a Drama Queen

I'm a drama queen lacking in Real Life drama. So, instead, I flail about things that I become obsessive over - which, usually, is everything, all the time, always. Be warned - I like to post AD NAUSEUM about what I'm currently in love with, and this changes about every other day.

I also occasionally flirt with the notion that I can write, and chose to demonstrate this deranged fantasy with the occasional fic bit posted from my one current fanfic project. I really only do it for the shallow praise - what, like you don't think a drama queen would have an ego?
