I've had a bunch of people commenting or emailing about the YouTube links I've been giving out for Hana Yori Dango. There's been a lot of hooplah from fansub groups about people posting their work on YouTube without crediting them (among other reasons), so a lot of series have been pulled from the YouTube site or made private, such as in the playlist that I've been linking to.
Therefore, there are three options for those who really want to experience the absolute awesomeness that is HYD, one of my favorite obsessions:
1) Download the episodes. It's super easy, but it may take awhile, depending on how many people are seeding at the time. It only took me a few hours, but I downloaded it when it first hit the net and was INSANELY popular. In any case, all you need to do is head over to SARS-Fansubs and click on their torrent page (located here). Scroll down to "Completed Projects" and you will find the Bittorent links for all the HYD episodes.
In order to download, you need to have a bittorrent client. I personally use Bit Comet, because I generally find it to be stupid-proof, but there are other options, like BitTornado or Azureus. If you need some info on what a bittorrent client is and how to use it, check out here or here.
2) There is a
jdramas community, where fans of j-dramas upload them onto direct-download sites like MegaUpload or Sendspace. You have to become a member in order to access the entries, and I believe that download links to HYD are in their memories. But not all of the download links are current, and most of the files are split, so you'd need to join the separate parts with a program called HJ Split. Benefit: they also offer TONS of other dramas, including Korean and Chinese series. But, it's a give-and-take community, so if you download, be sure to be prepared to offer a re-upload or to upload something you may have in order to contribute to the community.
3) Just search around on YouTube if the videos on the playlist are locked. HYD is super-popular and there are tons of people who have uploaded it, if you spend a few minutes looking, you'll probably be able to find it! If not on YouTube, there's also DailyMotion but it's newer and not as popular, so you may not have as much luck!

slantedsunlight, there is a fourth option! VNL-online.com is a streaming video site like YouTube or Daily Motion but it specializes in j-Dramas. You have to register and become a member, but that's incredibly simple. Check out vnl.com and run a search for Hana Yori Dango. Bonus: it also has all the anime episodes, so if the 9 episodes of the live-action aren't enough, you can overdose on that! Mad thanks to
slantedsunlight for the link!
Hope this has been helpful to anyone who has decided to check out HYD and has been left stranded or frustrated because of the locked videos on YouTube! Make sure you come back and squee with me over how much you loved it, because you totally are going to!

It's so great. Uber cheesy at times, but so so happy-inducing.
I hope you don't mind, but I'm going to delete your posts to this entry, just because I just posted a bunch of links on my bio pages at all the archives I post at, directing people who want to download the series here, and there's some spoilers in your comments... but I'll respond to you on the other post you were commenting on, because... definitely need to share in the squee! It's like reliving the series all over again, even though I've watched it far too many times, it's completely unhealthy.
And, since you've sucked me into the addicting world of JDramas, do you have any other recommendations? Series that are preferably already finished that I can go download & watch? Something of good sense though, along the lines of HYD.
I actually downloaded the rest of the HYD shows through SilentRegrets & Megaupload. It was fairly easy, except there's a limit to how many you can upload at a time.
Other JDramas? Nobuta Wo Produce is very good (it's a high school drama, and one of the main characters is quite possibly the most AWESOME character to ever exist!), as is 1 Litre of Tears (don't get fooled by the name - it IS very sad, but it's just so good).
I also really love It Started With a Kiss and MARS, which are Taiwanese dramas, and Goong (which is Korean, and the one I'm currently watching). ISWAK and Goong have a lot of silly moments and humor, and ISWAK is SOOOO incredibly cheesy, but I just love it so much and can't really explain why. Goong is all about the love/hate relationship, but when there's fluff, you'll die of cute-overload, it's so great.
And, YAY for watching ISWAK. I adore that drama, and I don't even know why, but I love it SO much. I hope you like it! (the girl gets annoying sometimes, but the fluff! So cute!)
it does have it's cute moments. ^^
Now there's already this thing with Ballet-girl. But I have this bad feeling that something's going to happen between her (As in the main girl) and the son of the dead king. Just the way he looked at her at first, and how he kept her pants (Dude, how wrong did that sound, lol) and how he's giving all that advice on the chocoalte and everything. Ugh. I can foresee so much angst in this series.
But I love angst. Lol.
You are my hero.
Vobsub works with Windows Media Player, but it works best with Media Player Classic, which you can find here. It's what I use, because it plays .rmvb files as well as .avi files.
Just in case anyone loves this story, and hasn't seen Hana Yori Dango...
The live action jdorama can be found here:

...AND there's a Season 2, which started on January 5th. I'm still waiting for the fansubbed version to come out, but you can find the raw version (w/o subtitles) on D-addicts.com:

And Emeral_Eyes, thanks so much for introducing us to this!! I think that the Japanese actor does quite a good job of portraying the Draco-esque character, too. Smiley And in the Taiwanese version, "Meteor Garden," the F4 actually became a popular Asian boy band. hehehe
And thanks so much for the tip on jdramas!! I think I'll go member-ify now. :)
And, about my icon, I KNOW!!! It's so great!! I freaked out when I saw it and knew I had to make it mine...
